The Schools Co-operative Society co-ordinates a network of educational organisations and provides advice and support to its members. It gives a voice to the rapidly growing co-operative sector within the UK educational system.

Values and Principles Co-operative Schools

Some schools do not want to change their status and adopt either a Co-operative Trust or Co-operative Academy status but want to adopt Co-operative Values and Principles.

These schools use Co-operative ideas through the school but develop them to suit their own needs and local situation.

Typically they will:-

  • Adopt Co-operative Values and Principles for their work with Young People and Staff
  • Use Co-operative management techniques to develop their school
  • Develop techniques to ensure key stakeholders have a voice in the life of the school
To find out more about Co-operative Values and Principles click here or study some of the case studies to see how they can be used in your school.

The original Co-operative Business and Enterprise Colleges used this process very successfully to develop their schools. Most of these schools found it led to good school improvements and many became highly successful schools.
